Mental health is an emotional state or the absence of mental disorder. It is defined as “the state of a person who is ‘functioning at an acceptable level of cognitive and behavioral adjustment.” It refers to the capacity of an individual to function within a given set of circumstances and to the extent of the person’s personal control. A psychose or a mental disorder is classified as a mental disorder or a disease of a brain. Psychosis however is a mental illness whereas manic depressive disorder is a condition which can only be identified by a psychiatrist. People who suffer from depression have a low self-esteem. However it may be treated effectively by using various methods such as medications therapy and even therapy by an expert. On the other hand people who suffer from schizophrenia have severe mental disorders and cannot be treated effectively. People with schizophrenia usually have hallucinations or delusions.
Another type of mental illnesses is the affective disorder which is categorized as an affective mental illness. This condition has many types and one can classify them according to the type of illness they have for instance; anxiety disorder bipolar disorder schizophrenia depression obsessive-compulsive disorder post-traumatic stress disorder eating disorder sleep disorder alcohol/drug abuse alcoholism and substance use disorder. One should also determine the type of therapy that he or she will be using to deal with the condition. There are different forms of therapies including cognitive behavioral therapy family therapy with or without group sessions dialectical behavior therapy psychodynamic therapy interpersonal therapy biofeedback hypnotherapy and pharmacological treatment. One can treat the condition with the help of professional counseling medication psychotherapy and even therapy in group sessions.
