Mental Health is defined as the degree of psychological well being or absence of mental disease. It is the mental state of a person who is “performing at a satisfying level of mental and behavioral adjustment.” In order to be in this state a person must have a good support system of people around them that are in tune with their needs such as family and friends. When a person has a good support network and a good personal history of mental health they can be said to be in mental health. Although it is difficult to determine an individual’s degree of mental health it can be easily determined through a combination of the patient’s symptoms and their health.
The first step for a person in the process of improving their mental health is to establish a routine. A healthy and consistent pattern of daily routine will assist with the improvement of their mental health. They should have regular sleep patterns and have consistent meal times. They should have adequate exercise routines and engage in activities that provide mental stimulation. This will help them relax when they are stressed. There should be some form of exercise that is appropriate for the patient depending on their age physical condition and level of physical activity. Many patients develop an obsessive compulsive disorder or OCD if they have an intense obsession with one or more mental disorders.
Another factor in determining a patient’s level of mental health is how they feel. If a patient is feeling depressed anxious angry frustrated sad or lonely and does not know why they feel like that then they may be suffering from a mental disorder. Patients should know when they are having problems and should ask for assistance when they need it. This will help the patient recognize their needs and make them aware of their mental health condition. They should be able to maintain relationships within their families and their social circles. Patients that are unable to do so are at risk of slipping into depression or withdrawal from society. They should make sure that their mental health condition is monitored and should seek out the services of a qualified psychiatrist to help them through the process of improving their mental health.
